My Approach
I grew up playing competitive sport and know how frustrating it is to miss training and matches through injury. That experience is one of the main reasons I became a physiotherapist. Today, I have the privilege of working with footballers who share that same drive to improve, helping them navigate the journey from injury back to elite performance.
Too often, footballers are either treated as injured patients or trained as healthy athletes, with little consideration for the transition between the two.
I believe rehabilitation and performance should never be separated.
Every assessment, exercise, and training decision should move you closer to your sporting goals. That's why confidence, understanding, and long-term resilience underpin my treatment style, in conjunction with physical capacity.
My approach integrates:
Injury rehabilitation
Strength and conditioning
Return-to-play planning
Load management
Performance development
Athlete education
I'm Jake Sugarman, a physiotherapist and performance coach with a passion for helping footballers recover from injury, build resilience, and perform with confidence. Through my work in elite women's football and private practice, I've seen how injuries, recurring setbacks, and inconsistent availability can prevent talented players from reaching their potential. That's why my approach focuses on more than simply treating pain, I focus on helping footballers bridge the gap between rehabilitation and performance.
I combine evidence-based physiotherapy, strength and conditioning principles, and athlete education to create clear, practical pathways from injury recovery to long-term performance development. Whether you're returning from injury, looking to reduce your risk of future setbacks, or striving to reach the next level in your sport, my goal is to help you become stronger, more robust, and better prepared for the demands of competition.

About Jake
The result is a structured system designed to help footballers stay healthy, train consistently, and perform at their best.
Experience and Background
I hold a Master of Physiotherapy and have worked with athletes across a range of sporting environments, with a particular interest in football performance and injury management.
My experience working within elite women's football has provided valuable insight into the physical demands of competitive sport, including injury prevention, rehabilitation, return-to-play decision making, and long-term football athlete development.
Alongside my clinical work, I have a strong interest in strength and conditioning, athletic performance, and helping athletes understand the "why" behind their training and rehabilitation.
Who I Work With
I primarily work with footballers who are committed to improving performance, reducing injury risk, and becoming more resilient athletes.
This includes:
Junior and developing footballers
Competitive senior players
Athletes returning from injury
Footballers preparing for higher levels of competition
Athletes seeking structured performance coaching
Seeing players reach their potential is what makes me feel fulfilled. I’m just as passionate about helping an aspiring junior break into the first team as I am supporting an NPL player returning from injury.
Whether your goal is to get back on the pitch, stay on the pitch, or take your game to the next level, I'm here to help guide the process.
Let's Get Started
If you're serious about improving performance, overcoming injury, and building a body that can handle the demands of your sport, I'd love to work with you.
